FDC Celebrates Pretrial, Probation and Parole Supervision Week

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Governor Ron DeSantis proclaimed July 16 - 22, 2023, as Pretrial, Probation and Parole Supervision Week. The week aims to recognize the dedication and commitment of the Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) Community Corrections staff in their mission to maintain public safety in Florida.

This year's annual commemoration by the American Probation and Parole Association is titled "Stronger Together." FDC gladly reaffirms the well-deserved support, gratitude, and appreciation for community corrections personnel.

"FDC's Community Corrections professionals work in every county and community across the state, playing an integral role in upholding public safety in Florida by enforcing court-ordered conditions and holding offenders accountable while serving their sentences in the community," said Florida Department of Corrections Secretary Ricky Dixon. "This week is an opportunity to celebrate their accomplishments and recognize their contributions that lead to the success of offenders transitioning back into their communities"

"I am immensely proud of our correctional probation officers, support staff and administrators across the state who make up our community corrections family," said Florida Department of Corrections Assistant Deputy Secretary of Community Corrections Joe Winkler. "We continue to make significant strides in our approach to carrying out our mission and intend to continue leading the country with innovative ideas and methods of ensuring supervision."

In the past year, FDC probation officers conducted more than 1.1 million field contacts in the community, 1.2 million office visits, 230,000 residential walkthroughs, searches, and curfew checks.

FDC’s Office of Community Corrections supervises more than 146,000 individuals and ensures compliance with court-ordered conditions of probation, conditional release, or pre-trial intervention sentences. Officers also provide offenders with the tools, support and resources needed to successfully complete their sentence. By monitoring court ordered compliance with victim restitution, substance abuse treatment, mental health programs and other services aimed at reducing recidivism, probation officers and support staff are an integral component of Florida's criminal justice system.
