Florida Correctional Officer Dies in the Line of Duty

DORAL, Fla. – The Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) today announced the passing of Officer Tawanna Marin of South Florida Reception Center.

Secretary Julie Jones said, “We are absolutely devastated by the tragic passing of Officer Tawanna Marin. For more than nine years, Officer Marin served our state as a corrections officer, and we are forever grateful for her sacrifice and service to our community. Our deepest condolences go out to her loved ones and fellow officers during this extremely difficult time.”

Correctional Officer Tawanna Marin was struck by a vehicle while supervising an inmate work squad in the community. She was transported to a nearby hospital where she was later pronounced deceased as a result of her injuries. She had been with the Department since 2009.

Details regarding the traffic accident should be directed to the Coconut Creek Police Department and Margate-Coconut Creek Fire Rescue.
