Inmate Assaults Correctional Officer at Liberty Correctional Institution

BRISTOL, Fla. – An inmate assaulted a correctional officer Wednesday morning at Liberty Correctional Institution.

Inmate Nathan Diaz (D25981) attacked a correctional officer at approximately 12:53 a.m. Inmate Diaz was being counseled when he charged and assaulted the officer with a homemade weapon. Several other staff members responded appropriately and the inmate became compliant.

The injured officer was examined by medical staff who noted a puncture wound to the head.

Inmate Diaz will receive a disciplinary report for this assault. The Department of Corrections Office of Inspector General will investigate this incident.

An Assault Advisory is issued by the Department of Corrections whenever a correctional officer or probation officer is attacked in the line of duty.
