Inmate Assaults Correctional Officer at Florida State Prison

RAIFORD, Fla. – An inmate assaulted a correctional officer Friday afternoon at Florida State Prison.

Inmate James Logan (Y00683) attacked a correctional officer at approximately 4:15 p.m. Inmate Logan was being escorted by three officers when he attempted to defeat the custodial grasp of the officers, causing injury to one. Following the incident, the officers were able to successfully bring inmate Logan into compliance and place him in his cell.

The injured officer was examined by medical staff who suggested that the officer receive treatment at an outside medical facility for injuries to the hand and fingers.

Inmate Logan will receive a disciplinary report for this assault. The Department of Corrections Office of Inspector General will investigate this incident.

An Assault Advisory is issued by the Department of Corrections whenever a correctional officer or probation officer is attacked in the line of duty.
