Inmate Attacks Correctional Officer at Martin Correctional Institution
INDIANTOWN, Fla. – An inmate attacked a correctional officer Friday morning at Martin Correctional Institution.
Inmate Michael Maldonado (M00448) attacked a correctional officer at approximately 10:50 a.m. While being counseled by staff, Inmate Maldonado became combative and refused to submit to restraints. Despite staff efforts to apply restraints, inmate Maldonado struck an officer in the face with a closed fist. While attempting to flee, inmate Maldonado slipped, allowing the stricken officer to apply restraints. Inmate Maldonado then became compliant.
The injured officer was examined by medical staff who noted a swollen cheek.
Inmate Maldonado will receive a disciplinary report for this assault. The Department of Corrections Office of Inspector General will investigate this incident.
An Assault Advisory is issued by the Department of Corrections whenever a correctional officer or probation officer is attacked in the line of duty.
