Governor Rick Scott Proclaims May 1-7 as Florida Correctional Employees Week

TALLAHASSEE—Governor Rick Scott designated the week of May 1-7, 2016, as Florida Correctional Employees Week in a proclamation signed April 25, 2016. The first week of May has been marked to honor the work of correctional officers, correctional probation officers and correctional personnel since 1984, when President Ronald Reagan signed Proclamation 5187, creating “National Correctional Officers’ Week”.

Secretary Julie Jones said, “I am inspired by the courage, dedication and perseverance our members display every day in service to Florida’s citizens. It is important to highlight the sacrifice and selfless work of those entrusted with the custody of our state’s inmates. This week, the Department expresses our most sincere appreciation for our employees, who embody our vision of inspiring success by transforming one life at a time.”

During Florida Correctional Employees Week, the Florida Department of Corrections will host a variety of events recognizing the hard work of our staff, including the 2015-2016 Agency Annual Awards.
