Inmate Attacks Correctional Officer at Northwest Florida Reception Center

CHIPLEY, Fla – An inmate attacked a correctional officer Sunday afternoon at Northwest Florida Reception Center.

Inmate Derrick Young (483856) attacked a correctional officer at approximately 5:08 p.m. Inmate Young reached out from his cell flap and struck a passing correctional officer in the abdomen.

The injured officer was examined by medical staff who noted bruising in the abdomen.

Inmate Young will receive a disciplinary report for this assault. The Department of Corrections Office of Inspector General will investigate this incident.

An Assault Advisory is issued by the Department of Corrections whenever a correctional officer or probation officer is attacked in the line of duty.
