Inmate Assaults Correctional Officer at Suwannee Correctional Institution

LIVE OAK, Fla. – An inmate assaulted a correctional officer Friday evening at Suwannee Correctional Institution.

Inmate Jojo Baker (U48310) attacked a correctional officer at approximately 8:58 p.m. While being escorted by staff, inmate Baker became combative and attempted to defeat the grip of the escorting officer. When officers attempted to gain control of the situation, inmate Baker kicked one in the chest. The officers were then able to bring the inmate into compliance.

The injured officer was examined by medical staff who noted abrasions to one chin, both shoulders, the upper and lower back and one arm.

Inmate Baker will receive a disciplinary report for this assault. The Department of Corrections Office of Inspector General will investigate this incident.

An Assault Advisory is issued by the Department of Corrections whenever a correctional officer or probation officer is attacked in the line of duty.

As Florida's largest state agency, the Department of Corrections employs 24,000 members statewide, incarcerates approximately 98,000 inmates and supervises nearly 140,000 offenders in the community.
