Inmate Attacks Correctional Officer at Taylor Correctional Institution
PERRY, Fla.—An inmate attacked a correctional officer Wednesday evening at Taylor Correctional Institution.
Inmate Johnny Simmons (B06535) attacked a correctional officer at approximately 10:50 p.m. While being counseled by staff, inmate Simmons became combative, pulled away and tripped a correctional officer. Staff then responded and inmate Simmons became compliant.
The injured officer was examined by medical staff who noted a laceration to an elbow and light bruising to one knee.
Inmate Simmons will receive a disciplinary report for this assault. The Department of Corrections Office of Inspector General will investigate this incident.
An Assault Advisory is issued by the Department of Corrections whenever a correctional officer or probation officer is attacked in the line of duty.
