AVON PARK, Fla. – An inmate attacked a correctional officer Monday evening at Avon Park Correctional Institution.

Inmate Kristofor Pennewill (U37383) attacked a correctional officer at approximately 9:34 p.m. During a security check, inmate Pennewill approached a correctional officer in a disorderly fashion. Inmate Pennewill then proceeded to place his left arm around the officer’s neck and strike him with his right arm and fist. Officers then redirected inmate Pennewill to his bunk and applied wrist restraints.

The injured officer was examined by medical staff who noted swelling and redness to a left ear and an abrasion to a left ring finger.

Inmate Pennewill will receive a disciplinary report for this assault. The Department of Corrections Office of Inspector General will investigate this incident.
