Inmate Attacks Correctional Officer at Union Correctional Institution
RAIFORD, Fla. – An inmate attacked a correctional officer Friday afternoon at Union Correctional Institution (UCI).
Inmate Mark Phillips (L72145) attacked a correctional officer at approximately 2:58 p.m. While being escorted to his cell, inmate Phillips became combative and head butted the staff member. The escorting correctional officers then brought inmate Phillips into compliance.
The involved staff members were examined by medical staff who noted that one correctional officer sustained bruising to one eye.
Inmate Phillips will receive a disciplinary report for this assault. The Department of Corrections Office of Inspector General will investigate this incident.
An Assault Advisory is issued by the Department of Corrections whenever a correctional officer or probation officer is attacked in the line of duty.
