Honor Flight to be held at Sumter Correctional Institution

WHAT: Media are invited to attend the Honor Flight at Sumter Correctional Institution (SCI). The first of its kind to be held within a correctional institution, this "flightless" Honor Flight will allow eleven Korean War, Vietnam War and Iraq War veterans to participate in a virtual tour of the nation's capital. The event will recognize these individuals for their service during our country's times of need.

SCI is one of only five correctional institutions within the Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) with a dedicated veteran's dormitory. The facility also houses American Legion Post #403. Post #403 maintains an inmate honor guard, which will present the colors at the upcoming event.
WHEN: Friday, October 16, 11 a.m. EST
WHERE: 9544 Country Road, 476B
Bushnell, Florida 33513
CONTACT: If you wish to attend the Honor Flight, please contact the Department of Corrections' Office of Communications at (850) 488-0420 as soon as possible, as attendees will need to complete and submit a Media Access Form.

Please note: no video or photos may be taken without the prior consent and approval from Department staff at the event. No cell phones will be permitted inside the institution.

As Florida's largest state agency, the Department of Corrections employs more than 23,000 members statewide, incarcerates approximately 100,000 inmates and supervises nearly 140,000 offenders in the community.
