Florida Department of Corrections Thanks America’s Heroes on Memorial Day
TALLAHASSEE– The Florida Department of Corrections (DOC) recognizes Military Appreciation Month this May and honors our nation’s heroes on Memorial Day.
Secretary Julie Jones said, “The Florida Department of Corrections proudly supports our nation’s military and veterans and honors those who have made the ultimate sacrifice defending our nation’s freedom. I would like to thank the many DOC employees who have served and for the sacrifices they have made to protect our country.”
The Department values the skills, dedication and work ethic of our nation’s veterans and military personnel and actively recruits new employees through military hiring events. Through an ongoing partnership with the National Guard, the Department has hired more than 700 veterans in the past year.
As Florida's largest state agency, the Department of Corrections employs more than 22,000 members statewide, incarcerates more than 100,000 inmates and supervises nearly 146,000 offenders in the community.
