Reporters are Invited to Rapid Response Team Training at Desoto Correctional Institution

ARCADIA— The media are invited to the Department of Corrections’ Southern Region Rapid Response Team (RRT) Training at Desoto Correctional Institution in Arcadia on Friday, November 4, 2011. The Rapid Response Teams will conduct training demonstrations from 8:30 am until 4:30 pm. There will be video and interview opportunities for reporters.

What: Rapid Response Teams are the Department’s first responders to incidents and disturbances on prison grounds. Twenty–two squads with a total of 308 team members will represent the six platoons assigned to cover the Southern Florida Region of the Department. The training areas include munitions, platoon and squad formation, a riot/baton scenario and a marksmanship and physical agility competition.
When: Friday, November 4, 2011
Time: Media may attend any time from opening ceremonies at 8:30 am until closing remarks at 4:30 pm
Where: Desoto Correctional Institution Main Unit

Directions: Southbound: South of Tampa on I-75, turn right on Highway 70 at Exit 217. (Northbound traffic should take Exit 217A.) Take Highway 70 to Arcadia. Continue on Highway 70 past Arcadia for approximately 12 miles. Desoto Main Unit is located on the right.
