Two Department of Corrections Events Scheduled for November 17, 2010

  • Florida Corrections Academy renamed and dedicated in memory of Former Secretary Harry K. Singletary, Jr.
  • Department of Corrections Memorial Ceremony for Fallen Officers and Employees

Singletary Dedication
Nov. 17, 2010, 9:15 a.m.
Wakulla Training Academy, Crawfordville, FL
On November 17, 2010 at 9:15 a.m. at Wakulla Training Academy in Crawfordville, the Department of Corrections will be dedicating the Florida Corrections Academy near Wakulla CI and renaming it the Harry K. Singletary, Jr., Academy. During the ceremony, Secretary McNeil will present a check to the National Director for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS) in Mr. Singletary’s memory.  The amount on the check represents all the Department’s employee fundraisers that took place recently during the LLS’s “Light the Night Walk” Campaign.  Department employees across the state volunteered their time to coordinate a variety of fundraising events in an effort to raise money and increase awareness of the disease that afflicted former Secretary Singletary.

Memorial Ceremony
Nov. 17, 2010, 10:00 a.m.
Wakulla Training Academy, Crawfordville, FL
Just minutes after that ceremony, at 10 a.m. on November 17, 2010, the Department of Corrections will be honoring our Fallen Officers and Employees. This memorial service will honor eight employees who have died either on duty or in the line of duty since the last memorial service of this kind more than a decade ago. Some of their family members will be attending.
