FDC Prepares for Tropical Storm Nicole, Announces Evacuations

Storm preparation and precautionary evacuations of satellite facilities are underway

TALLAHASSEE, Fla – The Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) is taking proactive steps to ensure public safety and make sure the individuals entrusted to our custody are safe and secure as Florida prepares for Tropical Storm Nicole.

In response to any state of emergency, FDC’s highest priorities are public safety, the security of the institutions and the safety of our staff and the inmates under Department supervision. FDC staff have begun working to make necessary preparations for inmates housed in facilities located in the anticipated path of the storm.

Evacuation determinations are made in the best interest of the public, staff and inmate safety. Multiple satellite facilities, community work release centers and work camps were evacuated in an abundance of caution. Inmates were relocated to larger main units (parent facilities), better equipped to weather the storm.

Approximately 2,600 inmates were relocated to facilities better equipped to weather the impacts of the storm. The following facilities have been evacuated:

  • Orlando CRC
  • St. Pete CRC
  • Largo Road Prison
  • TTH of Bartow
  • TTH of Tarpon Springs
  • Bridges of Cocoa
  • Orlando Bridge
  • Bridges of Orlando
  • TTH of Kissimmee
  • Kissimmee CRC
  • Re-Entry of Ocala
  • Martin WORK Camp
  • Ft. Pierce CRC
  • Ft. Pierce CRC

Inmate locations will be posted on the website approximately 24-hours after relocation, per standard protocol. In the event of an additional evacuations, announcements will be made upon completion.

State probation offices will be closed Wednesday, November 9, 2022 in the following counties: Alachua, Brevard, Charlotte, Clay, DeSoto, Dixie, Duval, Flagler, Glades, Hardee, Hendry, Hernando, Highlands, Hillsborough, Indian River, Lafayette, Lake, Leon (1pm), Martin, Nassau, Okeechobee, Orange, Osceola, Palm Beach, Pasco, Putnam, Seminole, St.John, St. Lucie, Union and Volusia.

If you are on community supervision (probation, community control, conditional release, etc.) and you have questions about reporting or need specific instructions regarding your supervision during Tropical Storm Nicole, contact your probation officer. If your probation office is closed, call the statewide community corrections hotline at 844-217-6738 for additional instructions.
