FDC Invites Media to Multi-Program Inmate Graduation

Lancaster CI to host a graduation ceremony for inmates receiving certificates for GED, Technical Certificates and Faith and Character-based programs

TRENTON, Fla. – The Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) invites media representatives to a graduation ceremony for 25 inmates who will receive their GEDs, Career and Technical Education (CTE) or Faith and Character-based program certificates at Lancaster Correctional Institution Friday, February 3.

Florida House Representative Charles Wesley "Chuck" Clemons Sr. will be the guest speaker.

WHAT: Graduates' family members will be in attendance during and after the ceremony. Media representatives covering this event will have access to take photographs and video during the event and interview inmate graduates, consenting family members and FDC administrators.

WHY: FDC's academic education programming consists of traditional coursework leading to the attainment of a high school diploma or equivalency. For inmates who have completed an educational component or those interested in learning or perfecting a trade skill, there are 92 CTE courses in 37 distinct vocational trades statewide. FDC offers meaningful academic and CTE opportunities to inmates to equip them with competencies conducive to successful social reintegration and employability.

WHEN: Friday, February 3, 2023, at 1:00 P.M. EST

Media should arrive no later than 12:30 p.m. for processing through security and equipment setup. Late arrivals cannot be accommodated.
