Inmate Dalton Ayers apprehended following brutal attack on Correctional Officer.

The Florida Department of Corrections’ number one priority is public safety. On the afternoon of December 3, 2020, an inmate brutally attacked an FDC correctional officer while engaging in work squad duties in Orange County. The inmate subsequently stole the FDC vehicle and fled. Local law enforcement was immediately notified and pursued the escaped inmate. Ayers was captured at 1:56 p.m. following a traffic crash.

These types of escapes are extremely rare. The Department is committed to ensuring all inmates are supervised appropriately and security protocols at all facilities are followed to prevent escapes.
