FDC Recognizes Pretrial, Probation and Parole Supervision Week 2020

Tallahassee, Fla. – The Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) is proud to celebrate Pretrial, Probation, and Parole Supervision Week, July 19 – 25. This annual week of recognition was initiated by the American Probation and Parole Association (APPA) in 1999 to showcase the tremendous work performed by community corrections professionals nationwide.

FDC’s Office of Community Corrections provides for public safety by supervising more than 161,000 individuals to ensure compliance with court-ordered conditions of probation, conditional release or pre-trial intervention sentences. In addition, FDC probation staff compassionately engage with each offender to provide them with the tools, support and resources needed to successfully complete their sentence.

“The importance of FDC’s Community Corrections staff and their contribution to the state of Florida cannot be overstated. This is especially true considering their adaptation to the evolving methods they’ve created to maintain effective supervision amidst new COVID-19 precautions,” said Secretary Mark Inch. “We are so fortunate to work with these courageous officers who have chosen this unique career path. With duties that delicately balance the duties of a law enforcement officer and a social or community provider, our Community Corrections professionals deserve admiration and gratitude during this week of recognition.”

FDC Correctional Probation Officers build and maintain bonds with community stakeholders, victims and family members through an array of services. By monitoring court ordered compliance with victim restitution, substance abuse treatment, mental health programs and other services aimed at reducing recidivism, probation officers and support staff are an integral component of Florida’s criminal justice system.
