Visitor Contraband Interdiction | February 1, 2020 - February 10, 2020

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) has zero tolerance for contraband of any kind, and visitors attempting to introduce contraband are subject to suspension or termination of their visitation privileges and arrest.

Columbia Correctional Institution: On February 1, during the security screening process, a visitor ran out of the visitor park and threw a bundle of cell phones into a chair. The visitor left the institution, leaving behind their identification card.

Walton Correctional Institution: On February 1, staff discovered a visitor in possession of marijuana, meth and MDMA. The visitor was arrested for introduction of contraband and possession of narcotics and transported to the Walton County Sheriff’s Office.

Desoto Annex: On February 1, staff discovered a visitor in possession of marijuana and fentanyl while entering through security. The visitor was arrested for introduction of contraband and transported to the Desoto County Sheriff’s Office.

Columbia Correctional Institution: On February 2, staff discovered a visitor in possession of two cell phones and synthetic marijuana during the security screening process. The visitor was arrested by Columbia County Sheriff’s Office for charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and narcotics residue.

Desoto Annex: On February 8, staff discovered a visitor to be in possession of assorted narcotics. The visitor was arrested by the Desoto County Sherriff’s Office for introduction of contraband.

Holmes Correctional Institution: On February 8, staff discovered a visitor in possession of marijuana. The Holmes County Sheriff’s Office was notified, and the visit was terminated.
