Visitor Contraband Interdiction | January 1, 2020 - January 31, 2020

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) has zero tolerance for contraband of any kind, and visitors attempting to introduce contraband are subject to suspension or termination of their visitation privileges and arrest.

Apalachee East Unit: On January 12, staff discovered a visitor in possession of synthetic marijuana while entering through security. The visitor was arrested by the Jackson County Sheriff’s office for introduction of contraband and possession of a controlled substance.

Desoto Annex: On January 18, staff discovered a visitor in possession of synthetic marijuana and THC inside the institution. The visitor was arrested by Desoto County Sheriff’s Office.

Gainesville Work Camp: On January 19, staff discovered a visitor in possession of several grams of tobacco during a pat search. The Alachua County Sheriff’s Office was notified.

Jackson Correctional Institution: On January 19, staff witnessed a visitor pass an inmate a small packet which he immediately swallowed. The visit was terminated.

Jackson Correctional Institution: On January 27, staff discovered a visitor in possession of heroin, cocaine, marijuana, synthetic marijuana and other narcotics. The visitor was arrested by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office for introduction of contraband.
