FDC Assault Advisories | December 4 – December 10, 2018

This is a report of assault advisories that occurred during the specified timeframe. An assault advisory is issued by the Department of Corrections whenever a correctional officer or probation officer is attacked in the line of duty.

Calhoun Correctional Institution: On December 4, inmate Steven Rivera (H26550) assaulted an officer at approximately 2:10 p.m. Inmate Rivera punched the officer in the face and knocked them to the ground. Staff responded appropriately, and the inmate was subdued. Inmate Rivera will receive a disciplinary report for this assault.

Tomoka Correctional Institution: On December 4, inmate Antonio Laster (M74552) assaulted two officers at approximately 2:40 p.m. Inmate Laster kicked the officers in the legs. Staff responded appropriately, and the inmate was subdued. Medical staff examined the officers and noted injuries. Inmate Laster will receive a disciplinary report for this assault.

Hamilton Correctional Institution: On December 5, inmate Faustin Egalis (K92653) assaulted an officer at approximately 11:10 p.m. Inmate Egalis struck the officer from behind with a broom handle. Staff responded appropriately, and the inmate was subdued. Inmate Egalis will receive a disciplinary report for this assault.

Santa Rosa Correctional Institution: On December 6, inmate Carlos Figueroa (X86053) assaulted an officer at approximately 4:43 p.m. Inmate Figueroa headbutted the officer. Staff responded appropriately, and the inmate was subdued. Medical staff examined the officer and noted injuries. Inmate Figueroa will receive a disciplinary report for this assault.

Santa Rosa Correctional Institution: On December 7, inmate Curtis Brown (P17073) assaulted an officer at approximately 9:36 a.m. Inmate Brown kicked the officer in the leg. Staff responded appropriately, and the inmate was subdued. Inmate Brown will receive a disciplinary report for this assault.

Northwest Florida Reception Center: On December 7, inmate Makiel Surera (H44334) assaulted an officer at approximately 1:54 p.m. Inmate Surera struck the officer in the chest. Staff responded appropriately, and the inmate was subdued. Inmate Surera will receive a disciplinary report for this assault.

Sumter Correctional Institution: On December 7, inmate Angel Velez (H49850) assaulted an officer at approximately 9:10 a.m. Inmate Velez became combative and non-compliant. Staff responded appropriately. While inmate Velez was being subdued, he wrapped his legs around an officer’s head. Medical staff examined the officer and noted injuries. Inmate Velez will receive a disciplinary report for this assault.

Florida State Prison: On December 7, inmate Genard Chestnut (130146) assaulted two officers at approximately 4:51 p.m. Inmate Chestnut punched the officers in the face and upper torso. Staff responded appropriately, and the inmate was subdued. Inmate Chestnut will receive a disciplinary report for this assault.

Liberty Correctional Institution: On December 8, inmate Austin O’Donnell (R80726) assaulted an officer at approximately 2:24 p.m. Inmate O’Donnell struck the officer in the face and head. Staff responded appropriately, and the inmate was subdued. Medical staff examined the officer and noted injuries. Inmate O’Donnell will receive a disciplinary report for this assault.

Sumter Work Camp: On December 8, inmate Iven Jones (372956) assaulted an officer at approximately 5:22 p.m. Inmate Jones became non-compliant and combative. Staff responded appropriately. While being subdued, inmate Jones caused abrasions and scratches on an officer. Medical staff examined the officer and noted injuries. Inmate Jones will receive a disciplinary report for this assault.

Martin Correctional Institution: On December 9, inmate Lorenzo Little (492177) assaulted an officer at approximately 6:05 p.m. Inmate Little threw a plastic bottle, striking the officer in the arm. Staff responded appropriately, and the inmate was subdued. Inmate Little will receive a disciplinary report for this assault.
