Visitor Contraband Interdiction | September 25 – October 1, 2018

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) has zero tolerance for contraband of any kind, and visitors attempting to introduce contraband are subject to immediate termination of their visitation privileges.

Whenever contraband is recovered on a visitor, local law enforcement is always contacted as well and they determine whether to make an arrest.

This past weekend, institutional staff stopped eleven visitors from introducing contraband into FDC’s secure facilities:

Blackwater Correctional Facility: On September 30, the institution's K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff subsequently discovered marijuana inside the vehicle. The visitor was arrested for possession and introduction of contraband.

Staff discovered a second visitor to be in possession of Marijuana. This visitor was also arrested for possession and introduction of contraband.

Everglades Re-Entry Center: On September 30, the institution's K-9 team alerted on two visitors’ vehicles. Staff subsequently discovered marijuana residue inside both vehicles. The visitations were terminated.

Franklin Correctional Institution: On September 30, the institution's K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff discovered marijuana and narcotics inside the vehicle and synthetic marijuana in the visitor’s possession. The visitor was arrested for possession and introduction of contraband.

Polk Correctional Institution: On September 30, the institution's K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff subsequently discovered marijuana inside the vehicle. The visitor was arrested for possession.

Reception and Medical Center and RMC West: On September 30, the institution's K-9 team alerted on two visitors’ vehicles at the main and west unit. Staff subsequently discovered marijuana residue inside both vehicles. The visitations were terminated.

South Bay Correctional Facility: On September 30, the institution's K-9 team alerted on three separate visitors’ vehicles. Staff subsequently discovered marijuana residue inside two of the vehicles and contraband tobacco in the third vehicle. The visitations were terminated.
