Visitor Contraband Interdiction | August 24 – 27, 2018

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida Department of Corrections (FDC) has zero tolerance for contraband of any kind, and visitors attempting to introduce contraband are subject to immediate termination of their visitation privileges.

Whenever contraband is recovered on a visitor, local law enforcement is always contacted as well and they determine whether to make an arrest.

This past weekend, institutional staff stopped eleven visitors from introducing contraband into FDC’s secure facilities:

Baker Correctional Institution: On August 25, the institution's K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff subsequently discovered marijuana inside the vehicle. The visitor was arrested for introduction of contraband.

Baker Work Camp: On August 25, the institution's K-9 team alerted on two separate visitor’s vehicles. Staff subsequently discovered marijuana residue inside both vehicles. Both visitations were terminated.

Cross City Correctional Institution: On August 26, the institution's K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff subsequently discovered marijuana residue inside the vehicle. The visitation was terminated.

Gulf Correctional Institution Annex: On August 25, the institution's K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff subsequently discovered narcotics, paraphernalia, and a loaded firearm inside the vehicle. The visitor was arrested for introduction of contraband and possession of a firearm, narcotics and paraphernalia.

Hardee Correctional Institution: On August 25, the institution's K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. The visitor refused consent to search their vehicle and departed the institution.

Moore Haven Institution Facility: On August 19, during a pat search, a visitor was found to be in possession of multiple packaged cellphones, marijuana, paraphernalia and contraband tobacco. The visitor was arrested for introduction of contraband.

Okeechobee Correctional Institution: On August 26, the institution's K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff subsequently discovered multiple packaged cellphones. The visitor was arrested for introduction of contraband.

Okeechobee Correctional Institution: On August 26, the institution's K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff subsequently discovered marijuana and narcotics. The visitor was arrested for introduction of contraband and possession of narcotics.

Putnam Correctional Institution: On August 25, the institution's K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff subsequently discovered marijuana residue inside the vehicle. The visitation was terminated.

Walton Correctional Institution: On August 19, the institution's K-9 team alerted on a visitor’s vehicle. Staff subsequently discovered synthetic marijuana and a packaged cellphone inside the vehicle. The visitor was arrested for introduction of contraband.
