Inmates Assault Officers at Suwannee Correctional Institution

LIVE OAK, Fla. – On November 17, two correctional officers were assaulted by inmates at Suwannee Correctional Institution.

Inmate Brian Kirsch (S09482) assaulted an officer at approximately 9:30 a.m. Inmate Kirsch stabbed the officer multiple times. Inmate Lawrence Johnson (127711) struck an officer in the face.

One officer has been transported to an outside hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

The facility was placed on lockdown and both inmates will be transferred to a more restrictive housing unit. The Department’s Office of Inspector General is conducting an investigation and the Office of Intelligence is reviewing the incident to determine necessary action.
