Governor Rick Scott Proclaims Florida Correctional Employees Week

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. ظ€ô Governor Rick Scott proclaimed the week of May 7-13, 2017, as Florida Correctional Employees Week. During Florida Correctional Employees Week, the Florida Department of Corrections will host a variety of events recognizing the dedication and contributions of its staff in the reduction of recidivism and the key role they play in keeping Florida communities safe.

Secretary Julie Jones said, “The Department’s correctional employees work bravely and diligently every day to ensure the security and safety of Florida’s inmates and supervised offenders. Thanks to these officers and staff, communities across the state are safer and recidivism is at an all-time low. This week, the Department expresses our most sincere appreciation for their selfless work and service to Florida’s citizens.”

President Ronald Reagan signed a proclamation in 1984, creating "National Correctional Officers Week." The first week of May has since been recognized as National Correctional Employees Week to honor the work of correctional officers, correctional probation officers and correctional personnel.
