FDC Celebrates Dog Program Graduates at Okeechobee Work Camp

If you would like to attend, please contact the Florida Department of Corrections’ Office of Communications as soon as possible at (850) 488-0420. Attendees will need to complete and submit a media background access form. No video or photos may be taken without prior consent and approval of Department staff at the event.

Media are invited to the graduation ceremony of the Pawsitive Direction program. This program brings together shelter dogs from the Loxahatchee Animal Rescue Center and inmates from Okeechobee Work Camp for obedience-training. Graduating dogs earn the AKC Canine Good Citizen Certificate and are crate trained, housebroken, spayed/neutered, up-to-date on shots and micro-chipped.

Through programs like Pawsitive Direction, the Department of Corrections is focusing on teaching inmates valuable job skills that will lead them to productive jobs and law-abiding lives upon release.

Exit I-95 at SR-68 (northernmost exit in Ft. Pierce). Go west on SR-68 for approximately 25 miles to Highway 441. Turn left onto 441 and go approximately three (3) miles. Turn left at N.E. 168th Street. Follow N.E. 168th Street to the institution.
